• <H6> I must admit I wish I would’ve learned the Spanish language before I went to Mexico to better communicate with the natives but unfortunately I didn’t. I went in October, their off season, and flying into the local airport being able to view the trees and mountains was maybe the most exciting for me. Once you pass customs you’re immediately greeted with alcohol and beautiful people. Quick word of advice — walk straight by the people asking you if it is your first time in Mexico. They are only trying to sell you time shares and tours, which you can purchase at your hotel. Walk as fast as you can to the outside of the airport, catch a taxi or the taxi services from your hotel personally. My family and I stayed on a four star resort called Sunscape which was beautiful but as most people advise if you plan to travel internationally, stay in five or six star hotels. It was little things. Never enough towels, the wet bar was never full, they were slow with room service and the bed sheets were changed a total of once in our four day stay. You get what you pay for. I enjoyed every employee, all were friendly and didn’t laugh to hard at my broken Spanish. I would say that Sunscape is geared more towards families and children, the only thing for young adults were the taxi services to the local clubs but you had to find your way back which seemed to be a bit of a safety risk. There were only three restaurants but we were only able to eat at two because one was only open after a certain time but the one time we dressed up it wasn’t serving people. Not exactly complaining because the food from the others were fantastic and having lunch or dinner with an ocean and mountain view compensated for the lack. Just like any other hotel across the seas the more money you tip the better your service. My family and I learned this quickly with the alcoholic beverages. I tipped the bartender five dollars, two drinks in we were beyond tipsy. Mind you we had drank four or five pina coladas prior. Sunscape had a ton of fun activities from bracelet making to water volleyball and even parades. Is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico some place I would recommend? Definitely. Is Sunscape Hotel a place I would recommend you stay? If you’re a young adult with a bunch of friends or even a party family, no. If you’re a couple, a family with a lot of children or even one child or even elderly, I do. They cater more so to those groups. I do wish I would’ve traveled the island more but I didn’t perhaps it’ll give me more incentive to return and take the time to walk around and see what I missed.
